My step father Geoff Caston died last week. He was just shy of 92. Geoff was an academic and public servant in an era when those were the highest contributions one could make to society. He and my mom were together for most of my life. As with kids and parents we had our bumps in the road, but the arc of our relationship was loving and supportive. Geoff was in the UN, knew JFK when he was at Harvard, worked with Margaret Thatcher at the Ministry of Education, was the Registrar of Oxford University and capped off his career with his position as Vice Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific. Geoff was awarded the CBE (which for you yanks is one below a knight). His life was his adventure. Here is his obituary. And here is his wikipedia page. Geoff and Judy, what a pair, I miss you.
